ChatPower 80 is a vocabulary consisting of high-frequency core words, spelling and word prediction, all on the main page. It also includes the category-based pages contained in all other versions of the vocabulary. With this setup, the user can use core words in the same sentences without moving to a separate page to spell. This vocabulary is configured to work with a keyguard and with scanning.

ChatPower48 is a modified version of ChatPower42, but it includes an extra column on every page. The extra column includes designated buttons for clear, smart period, delete word, and plural –s. It is a word-based vocabulary that was designed to be an easy and intuitive generative language system. This vocabulary is configured to work with a keyguard and with scanning.

ChatPower42 is a word-based vocabulary that allows for easy and intuitive communication. ChatPower42 is a generative language system that will be familiar to those using WordPower on other systems, and easy to learn for new users.

ChatPower42 Basic is a simplified version of ChatPower42. This word-based system remains rich in core vocabulary, and it may be appropriate for beginning users or those that need a more basic vocabulary design. It is designed to make communication fast and easy.

ChatPower30 is a modified version of ChatPower24, but it includes an extra column on every page. The extra column includes designated buttons for clear, delete word, smart period, and plural –s. It is a word-based vocabulary that was designed to be an easy and intuitive generative language system. This vocabulary is configured to work with a keyguard and with scanning.

ChatPower24 is a word-based vocabulary that allows for easy and intuitive communication. The program has been designed specifically for this portable and readily available platform. It is a generative language system that will be familiar to those using WordPower on other systems, and easy to learn for new users.

ChatPower24 with Phrases is also a word-based vocabulary program, but phrases and sentences starters have been incorporated in order to make language generation easier for those that may have difficulty with a word-based program. Core language and category-based words are included in this program.

"ChatPower20 Simply for NOVA chat"incorporates carrier phrases with core words for quick and easy language generation for the iPad, iPad mini, and iPod touch. I developed this vocabulary with only 20 cells for individuals with:

  • motor disabilities and access issues that preclude them from accessing vocabulary sets with more keys;
  • vision impairment that need large cells and print;
  • cognitively and severely language disabled individuals who benefit from phrases to assist with quick language generation;
  • individuals who want a sophisticated vocabulary on a small platform such as an iPod touch;
  • scanning access needs for the iPad or NOVA chat platforms.
This design could be called a “hybrid,” because it can be used primarily as a phrase-based system, or as a word-based system. For example, there will be individuals who primarily use the carrier phrases “I want…,” “I like…,” and “I need…” to generate sentences. But, a clinician or parent could also introduce this vocabulary emphasizing use of the individual pronouns “I,” “it,” and “you,” or sentences starters such as “can” and “do.” While the verbs “want,” “like,” and “need” appear in the same places on the layout as when accessed through the pronoun phrases, when the single pronouns are selected, a page of high frequency verbs and helping verbs also become available. I have worked with students who seem to go back and forth between using the pronoun phrases and the singular pronouns. Similarly, after such phrases, one can quickly finish a sentences using an infinitive phrase such as “to eat…,” “to play…,”“to watch…,” etc., or one can select the infinitive “to” and have a more expanded set of verbs available. The clinician or the individual using the system can determine which way to use the language system. I generally model the language in a word-based manner unless it is clear that this method is too difficult.

The semantic categories are similar to other versions of the WordPower/ChatPower vocabularies and should be familiar to clinicians using these vocabularies.

"ChatPower20 Simply for NOVA chat" will also work well with the row-column scanning option now available with the TouchChat app.
